    Description

For anyone looking for a traditional head turning boat with all the home comforts then this is the boat for them! A 70’ R.W. Davis Northwich Trader with JP3 Lister engine.

    Video tour available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1zyN-Reag4

    Heating and Cooking:

The main heating source is the Morso Squirrel Stove in the living area. There is also an Epping Range in the Boatman’s Cabin plus a radiator in the bathroom that is linked to the engine.

Hot water is supplied via a calorifier that is linked to the engine to provide plenty of hot water after a few hours cruising. There is also an emersion heater within the calorifier so that when the shoreline is attached there is no need to run the engine to obtain hot water.

An LPG cooker comprising 4 burner hob with separate grill and oven below is located in the galley.

    Safety:

In line with Boat Safety Scheme, fire extinguishers are located in the engine room and cabin plus there is also a fire blanket in the galley. There is also a smoke detector.

    Decor:

The interior is light and airy throughout. In the main living area, it features a white tongue and groove ceiling with central plank decorated with canal artwork.

The white side panels include feature trim and the portholes all have shutters with artwork.

Lower cabin sides are vertical planks, in dove grey.

The floor is reclaimed wood in natural finish.

Spot lights are in set into the ceiling at regular intervals and there are additional reading spots in the bedroom.

There are access doors onto the front deck and also on the port side of the saloon. There are also the obligatory doors on either side of the engine room so that the engine can be admired by all. Finally, there are the back cabin doors that lead into the boatman’s, finished in traditional roses and castles artwork.

Sockets comprise: 240v twin in living area and 240v twin in the galley plus 12v single in the living area.

    Accommodation

The main living area is accessed from the tug deck via a wooden step ladder. The double doors and bulkheads either side are solid for greater security.

Originally beneath the tug deck there was a pull out double bed, now there is general storage accessed via a curtain.

At the base of the steps to your right (Portside, which is left as you look forward) are 2 tub chairs and to the left is a flat screen TV plus fold out dining table and stools.

The leather tub chairs have a tan finish and flank a side table.

Between this area and the galley is a side door with step ladder access that matches the front access; opposite as you descend is the Morso Squirrel Stove.

The stove sits on a slate hearth with brass surround and the cabin side is tiled behind in grey and white random patterns. It has an extended flat top to take a kettle or casserole.

Linked to this area is the galley, making the area feel very spacious because there are no dividers or bulkheads.

The passage style galley has dove grey shaker units that offer a mix of cupboard and drawer storage. Worktop are in granite that is off white with a flecked finish in a mix of copper and silver. Behind are dove coloured tiles.

On the portside the units comprise cupboard with drawer above, cooker, another cupboard and drawer concluding with cupboards that include the built in fridge. Above is an inset stainless sink serviced by a mixer tap.

The 12v Shoreline fridge includes an ice box large enough to store a 2 litre ice cream tub and small selection of frozen items.

Opposite is a run of cupboards with work space above though this is not as deep as standard kitchen units in order to make it easier for crew to pass.

Immediately the other side of the galley bulkhead is the master bedroom. Here the upper side décor changes to tongue and groove planks to match the ceiling and the decorative ceiling runner also terminates. There is however an alternative ceiling feature mid-way across the centre of the ceiling.

Ceiling spot lights are replaced by a central tungsten light.

Above the head of the bed are reading spots, below is open storage and at the base is a small hanging cupboard with glass door. Behind this is a wardrobe. Opposite the wardrobe is a small corner unit with mirror above.

Next is the walk through bathroom accessed via a decorated door. The homely features include a 3/4 sized bath.

Much of this interior is tongue and groove lined to match the bedroom but the bedroom end bulkhead is tiled with metallic rainbow mosaics and there is a tiled uplift around the bath and vanity in the same grey tiles as is used for the uplift in the galley.

As you enter from the bedroom the pump out toilet is to your right (Port side) opposite is the vanity comprising glass wash bowl set on the same granite as that used in the galley. Below is open shelving bordered by a gingham curtain.

The bath then takes up the remainder of the cabin, to the side of which is a small chemical toilet for emergency use. On the opposite wall is the radiator with towel rail above.

Above the top of the bath is a corner cabinet and to the side is a mirror. A door, covered in the same mosaics as the opposite bulkhead leads into the engine room.

The engine looks to be immaculately cared for and the engine room itself is beautifully clean and tidy. There is plenty of space to get around the engine for maintenance as well as the opportunity to store useful items such as spares.

To complement the engine room there is the traditional boatman’s cabin with fabulous traditional canal artwork.

As you look in from the back doors on the port side is the Epping Range with white tiles behind and decorative storage to the side. Then comes the fold down table and cross bed with storage above and below all beautifully decorated.

Opposite is the bench sofa with deep upholstered cushions covered in a steel blue velour fabric.

Further artwork features on the door into the engine room and on the starboard side of the back deck entry.

This cabin is longer than the usual boatman’s to provide additional storage room in terms of floor to ceiling cupboards either side of the engine room door.

    External:

The large tug deck has space for sitting on and plenty of storage below. The rear counter is plain to be in keeping with a traditional working boat look with the back doors featuring traditional canal art.

Cabin sides and roof are plainly finished in raddle red to highlight the traditional finish of the engine room and back cabin.

External access is provided via the gunwale linked to a flat easier to hold handrail than the usual roof inclusive kind.

If you are looking for a traditional narrowboat with all the bells and whistles that includes a nice looking, comfy interior then Florence should be on your list. She is the perfect show piece narrowboat for liveaboard and/or extensive cruising.

Ropes, mooring stakes, lock windlasses and other cruising essentials are included but we would recommend you go through our checklist before departing to ensure that you have everything that you need.
